ForZair air-type and OFW and ONW water-type transformer oil coolers with heat removal from 60 to 1500 kW. They are installed on power transformers at substations and power plants, including during upgrades of cooling systems. For overloaded transformers there is the portable emergency cooler ForZair HeatSink.

Description
The heat transfer division of the group deals exclusively with the cooling of electrical machines and produces transformer oil coolers and pumps, generator coolers and coolers for TEWAC motors. Its headquarters are located in London, Ontario (Canada). Together with the coolers the company supplies Cardinal pumps and fittings for transformer cooling systems.
ForZair Power is a series of standard oil-to-air coolers with forced circulation of oil and air, in standard and made-to-order configurations. The model is selected in minutes using detailed tables and ordered by number. Standard sizes are designed for 125–750 kW of heat removal, have 2–5 fans, noise of 64–86 dB, an oil flow of 300–800 gallons per minute (US) and a TOR, that is the rise of top oil temperature above ambient air, of 20–50 °C.
The heat exchanger is made of extruded finned aluminum tubes or in a plate-fin version. There is a sump on one side for the oil, various orientations and sizes of nozzles, and hinged fan panels for service. The basic version is galvanized, and on request a two-component epoxy or three-layer coating is applied for chemically aggressive and coastal environments. The unit is cleaned to ISO standards and shipped filled with nitrogen, and the fan motors are made for different voltages.
ForZair Mobile is mounted on trailers. The portable auxiliary HeatSink has seal-less Cardinal pumps, an expansion tank, an NEMA 4 control cabinet and quick-disconnect hoses. It is quickly connected to an overloaded transformer to lower the oil temperature, and then moved to another substation.
OFW is a shell-and-tube oil-to-water heat exchanger with forced circulation of both media, for vertical or horizontal installation. Its diameter is 8–24 inches, length 36–120 inches and rated power 60–1500 kW. The finned copper outer tube on the oil side makes the unit compact, and access on the water side without disconnecting joints simplifies cleaning. A leak sensor with double tubes in double tubesheets catches water from a damaged inner tube, so it does not get into the oil. Headers are welded or bolted for multi-pass versions. ONW works with natural oil circulation.

What heat load do the ForZair and OFW coolers remove?
Standard ForZair Power units are designed for 125–750 kW, and the water-type OFW for 60–1500 kW of rated power.
How is the transformer protected from water entering the oil?
The OFW has the option of double tubes in double tubesheets with a leak sensor. Water from a damaged inner tube is caught by the outer tube and does not enter the oil.
Is there a cooler for temporary unloading of a transformer?
Yes, the portable ForZair HeatSink is connected with quick-disconnect hoses to an overloaded transformer. ForZair Mobile is also available on a trailer.
