COMEM eBR is a digital Buchholz relay DN80 for smart transformers with 4–20 mA and Modbus RTU outputs. In addition to alarm and trip, it remotely monitors the volume of accumulated gas and the oil flow to the conservator.

Description
The eBR grew out of the classic BR series relays and retains their protective functions. The relay gives an alarm when gas accumulates and trips the transformer on a sudden surge of oil. In addition, it continuously and remotely measures the gas volume and the flow velocity. The cause of operation is visible at once, and decisions are made without a trip to the substation for inspection.
Gas in the oil appears as a result of leakage currents, arcing, flashovers, loss of insulating liquid or excessive flow velocity. If these processes are noticed in time, a severe failure and long downtime can be avoided. The eBR is designed for venting accumulated gas and detecting abnormal oil flow velocity.
Nominal bore DN80. The housing and the top part with the terminal box are cast aluminium with RAL 7032 powder coating; an offshore version is available on request. The inspection glass is tempered, with a UV filter. The relay has up to four contacts with a maximum current of 2 A and a minimum switching current of 10 mA at 24 V DC. Dielectric strength is 2.5 kV AC for 1 min between contacts and earth and 1.0 kV across open contacts, insulation resistance 1000 MΩ at 500 V DC. The flap operates at a flow velocity from 1.0 to 3.0 m/s (±15 %).
The 4–20 mA analogue output and the Modbus RTU digital interface are powered from 24 V DC ±10 % with correct polarity, consumption up to 0.5 W. Oil temperature from −40 to +115 °C, ambient from −40 to +80 °C, arctic version on request. Degree of protection IP65 to EN 60529, IP66 on request, two M25×1.5 cable glands. The relay complies with IEC 60076-22-1, and the GSD2 gas sampling device is offered as an accessory.
The eBR is compatible with the entire eDevices family and with third-party devices. It is connected via a central control unit and is part of the MeDICA diagnostic ecosystem. The relay is installed on the conservator pipe or tank of transformers with or without a rubber bag, on new installations and in retrofits, in offshore and tropical conditions.

Questions and answers
Is the eBR suitable as a replacement for РЗТ-80?
By purpose and DN80 bore the relay can be considered as a replacement, but a relay with 4–20 mA output and Modbus RTU has no direct equivalent among CIS products. Please agree the selection for a specific transformer with our manager.
What power supply does the digital part of the relay need?
24 V DC ±10 % with correct polarity, consumption up to 0.5 W.
What is the oil temperature range?
From −40 to +115 °C, ambient temperature from −40 to +80 °C. An arctic version is made on request.
