OLI / OLI22 / L140 / L220 / L340 transformer oil level indicators
OLI, OLI22, L140, L220 and L340 are dial oil level indicators for the conservators and tanks of oil-filled transformers to IEC 60076-22-1. The dial is 250 or 146 mm, with up to four microswitches for MIN and MAX signals.

Description
Mineral or silicone oil in a transformer insulates and cools the active part at the same time, so a drop in its level means a risk of failure. The level indicators are fitted on the conservator or tank of oil-filled transformers. The device shows the level on the dial and sends MIN and MAX signals to the protection and alarm circuit, so an oil leak is noticed in time.
A float of Rohacell material turns the pointer through a lever and a magnetic coupling. The dial is hermetically separated from the oil. Depending on the type, the float moves radially or axially, and versions exist for conservators with a rubber bag (diaphragm). The housing and flange are cast from aluminium alloy, the glass is polycarbonate or tempered. The marks are applied on an aluminium plate, and the scale is set to order. A vent valve prevents condensate from forming.
The large OLI indicator has a 250 mm dial. The OLI22, L340, L220 and L140 models have a 146 mm dial and differ in their connection flanges. The 6 or 8 hole flanges are of the manufacturer's own design, and the 4 hole flange is compatible with all transformer designs. In several models the housing can be removed from the flange without draining the oil. L140 and L220 are also used on traction transformers.
The device has up to four protected microswitches, fixed or adjustable. They operate 5° before the MIN and MAX marks with a tolerance of ±2.5°. The rated contact voltage is 24–230 V AC/DC, the switched current is 2 A, and the breaking capacity is 0.25 A at 250 V DC and 3 A at 250 V AC. The dielectric strength between contacts and earth is 2.0 kV AC.
The indicators comply with IEC 60076-22-1. Oil temperature is from −40 to +120 °C, ambient from −40 to +80 °C. The degree of protection is IP66 for OLI and OLI22 and IP65 for L140, L220 and L340, with vibration resistance class 4M4. Corrosion protection is C4-M (RAL 7032), C5-M with Geomet coating for coastal sites, and CX (RAL 7035) for offshore. The devices are fitted on transformers with and without a conservator, with a rubber bag, in the tropics and in marine conditions, both on new installations and as replacements.
