Protective (surge) capacitors for generators and motors up to 24 kV
Protective (surge) capacitors for voltage up to 24 kV, capacitance 0.1–0.6 µF. They reduce the steepness and amplitude of overvoltages and protect the insulation of generators, motors and transformers.

Description
They are made as a single capacitor or as an RC unit with a non-inductive resistor. The capacitor is installed close to the terminals of the protected machine together with surge arresters. The arrester limits the overvoltage amplitude, and the capacitor stretches the wave front, which reduces the stress on the turn insulation of the windings.
