Single-phase HV capacitors 1–24 kV, 25–600 kVAr, with internal fuses
Single-phase high-voltage capacitors for 1–24 kV and unit power of 25–600 kVAr, used for reactive power compensation and for building harmonic filters in medium-voltage networks. Each unit has internal fuses and built-in discharge resistors. The capacitors are recommended for networks above 11 kV and for high-power installations.

Description
The capacitors have one or two insulated terminals and are connected to the network in a double-star arrangement. They are used to raise cos φ and in banks made up of many units, where three-phase capacitors do not suit the voltage or power.
The tank is made of stainless steel and the bushings are porcelain. The dielectric is polypropylene film, impregnated with a biodegradable PCB-free fluid. Internal fuses disconnect a faulty element without taking the capacitor out of service, and built-in discharge resistors reduce the residual voltage to 75 V within 10 minutes. An external pressure relay with a potential-free NO+NC contact is fitted as an option. Mounting is by side brackets, horizontally or vertically. The tightening torque is 10 N·m for the M12 terminals and 7 N·m for the M10 earthing bolt. In a bank of many units these torques should be observed on every capacitor. Voltage, power and insulation level are selected according to the network voltage and the bank arrangement.
Rated voltage is from 1 to 24 kV, unit power from 25 to 600 kVAr, frequency 50 or 60 Hz, capacitance tolerance −5/+10 %. Insulation levels are 20/60, 38/75, 38/95, 50/125 and 70/170 kV. Dielectric losses are 0.07 W/kVAr, and total losses including discharge resistors and internal fuses are 0.15 W/kVAr. Permissible overvoltages are 110 % for 12 hours a day, 115 % for 30 minutes, 120 % for 5 minutes and 130 % for 1 minute. Continuous current overload is 1.3 In, and the inrush current is no more than 100 In.
The test voltage between terminals is 4.3 Un DC or 2.15 Un AC for 10 s. Temperature category is −25/50 °C, with natural cooling, humidity up to 95 %, altitude up to 1000 m, degree of protection IP00, for indoor and outdoor installation. The design service life is over 100,000 hours. Standards are IEC/EN 60871-1 and 60871-4.
The capacitors are used in static capacitor banks at 10–35 kV substations, in filter-compensating devices, and for compensating large motors and transformers. Banks based on them have been supplied for substations in Ukraine.

Questions and answers
What voltages and powers are the single-phase capacitors made for?
Rated voltage is from 1 to 24 kV and unit power from 25 to 600 kVAr. Frequency is 50 or 60 Hz.
How does the capacitor react to internal damage and how does it discharge?
Internal fuses disconnect a faulty element without taking the capacitor out of service. Discharge resistors reduce the residual voltage to 75 V within 10 minutes.
For which networks are the single-phase capacitors recommended?
For networks above 11 kV and for high-power installations where the bank is made up of many units. They are connected in a double-star arrangement.
