Description

KSTAR LFP consists of battery blocks based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry (LiFePO4) with a nominal voltage of 12.8 V. A built-in battery management system, the BMS, is located inside the case. It monitors cell voltage, current and temperature and disconnects the block in dangerous modes, so no separate external protection module is needed.

The cycle life of the blocks exceeds 3500 charge-discharge cycles. By comparison, lead-acid batteries of the same purpose withstand far fewer cycles, and LiFePO4 is also less prone to overheating than other lithium chemistries. This is why this type is increasingly installed in stand-alone solar systems, backup power, and mobile and telecommunication equipment.

Maintenance is simple. KSTAR emphasizes battery protection and ease of operation: the block needs no topping up, gives off no acid fumes and does not require equalization charging, unlike lead-acid batteries. ISO 9001, UL and FCC certificates are stated for every battery.

The 12.8 V version is convenient for systems with a matching bus voltage. Blocks can be connected to each other to increase capacity or voltage, if the documentation for the specific model permits; the connection scheme and the number of parallel strings are checked against the instructions. Charging is carried out by a charger or inverter with a profile for LiFePO4, otherwise the BMS will limit the charge. Lithium iron phosphate chemistry is temperature-stable and has a flat discharge voltage curve, so the load receives almost constant voltage almost to the end of discharge. The blocks are lighter than lead-acid equivalents of the same capacity, which eases transport and installation at height. Temperature limits on charging, especially at sub-zero temperatures, are taken from the documentation for the specific model.

During selection, compare the required capacity, the discharge current, the installation temperature range and the dimension requirements. Before commissioning, check the block voltage, the connection polarity and the charging profile settings. Blocks are stored in a charged state, not fully discharged. The final model from the LFP line is best agreed with a manager based on load data.
