Description
The group combines five lines of KSTAR sealed valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries. FM is a 2 V design with a capacity of 1.2–250 Ah and a service life of up to 15 years. FML is available as 6 and 12 V blocks, 36–200 Ah, up to 10 years, with an operating temperature range of −20…+50 °C. FMH is a 12 V, 55–150 Ah line designed for upright mounting. GFM consists of 2 V cells from 100 to 3000 Ah, also up to 15 years. The High Rate series at 2 and 12 V is specified by a specific power of 230–2900 W and is intended for UPS systems.
The construction is sealed: the valve does not let air into the case and at the same time protects the battery from damage by gases released during float charging. In float mode, no acid mist or electrolyte escapes. Gas recombination inside the cell means that no water needs to be added, so maintenance comes down to inspection and monitoring of voltage and temperature.
KSTAR supplies the batteries with a patented tray that matches the dimensions of the battery and protects the equipment and the floor from electrolyte leakage. For rooms with sensitive electronics this is a significant advantage over open types.
Applications are UPS backup power, telecommunication nodes and the power industry, including substations, operating DC power, and control and alarm systems. The 2 V blocks are assembled into strings of the required voltage, while 6 and 12 V monoblocks are convenient for small battery cabinets. In float mode the charging voltage is kept within the limits given in the documentation, and the voltage and internal resistance of the blocks are measured periodically. A deviation from the average value in individual cells indicates ageing earlier than other signs, so such blocks are replaced before the whole battery group sags.
When selecting, take into account the system voltage, the capacity for the required discharge time, the room temperature and the placement method, that is, rack, cabinet or stand. The service life given for each series applies to float mode at normal temperature, so in a hot room it is reduced. The final choice of series is best agreed with a manager.
