ZG 1.2 / ZG 3.1 / ZG 4.1 / ZG 5.x / ZG 6.1 accessories for Buchholz relays

The ZG series comprises accessories that work together with a Buchholz relay and make its operation, testing and sampling easier. Personnel do not have to climb onto the transformer cover, so gas protection at a substation or in a workshop is serviced from a working height beside the tank.

ZG 1.2
gas sampling device at working height; gas/oil outlets G 1/8″; −40…+55 °C
ZG 3.1
chemical gas indicator (two reagents, colour reaction)
ZG 4.1
check valve (protection against oil ingress)
ZG 5.1 / 5.2 / 5.3
test pumps: hand / foot / hand

Description

The ZG 1.2 gas sampling device is connected to the relay by a pipe and mounted on the tank of the transformer at a convenient working height. Through it the gas accumulated in the relay is taken and the upper system of the relay is tested. The pipe length is determined by the customer; the gas and oil outlets have a G 1/8″ thread, others on request. Ambient operating temperature is −40…+55 °C, oil −40…+115 °C. The device is fitted with an inspection window cover, and a lockable box can be fitted to order.

The ZG 3.1 gas indicator is fixed directly on the air vent valve of the relay or on the ZG 1.2 cock. The gas passes through two different chemical solutions, and the colour reaction gives a preliminary indication of the type of fault. The manufacturer states plainly that such a check does not replace chromatographic analysis. The ZG 4.1 check valve is placed between the relay (or the ZG 1.2) and the gas indicator so that insulating liquid does not get into the instrument. Any liquid that is nevertheless drawn in collects in a glass cylinder; after use the valve is cleaned with ligroin, and the remaining liquid is drained through a cylinder-head screw.

The test pumps ZG 5.1 (hand), ZG 5.2 (foot) and ZG 5.3 (hand) test the upper, alarm system of the relay by pumping in air. Air is supplied directly through the air vent valve of the relay or through the ZG 1.2 cock, and the hose is included in the set. When enough air has been pumped into the housing, the upper float drops and the relay gives an alarm signal, which tests the whole signalling circuit. The ZG 6.1 oil sampling device is connected by a pipe to a relay that has a drain plug. The M12x1.5 plug is replaced with a nipple, the tube is led to a drain at working height, and oil samples for the laboratory are taken without climbing onto the transformer. If there is no shut-off valve between the relay and the conservator, the conservator is drained through the ZG 6.1 as well. The same device is used to drain oil from the relay before servicing it.

All devices are supplied with operating instructions in many languages, including Russian, Polish, Romanian, Chinese and Arabic. For on-site gas analysis the series is complemented by the BGS sampler and the BGT 4.1/4.2 analysers.

Questions and answers

What is the ZG 1.2 gas sampling device for?

It brings gas from the Buchholz relay to a convenient working height beside the tank. Through it gas is taken and the upper system of the relay is tested without climbing onto the transformer cover.

Does the ZG 3.1 gas indicator replace laboratory analysis?

No. The colour reaction of two chemical solutions gives only a preliminary assessment of the type of fault and does not replace chromatographic analysis.

What test pumps are in the series?

Hand pumps ZG 5.1 and ZG 5.3 and foot pump ZG 5.2. They pump in air to test the upper system of the relay, and the hose is included in the set.
