RIS2, combined protective relay for sealed transformers (pressure, temperature, level, gas)
The RIS2 is an integrated DGPT-type safety device for sealed oil-filled transformers, combining a pressure relay, two thermostats, an oil level indicator and a gas relay. It is fitted to the cover of 6–35 kV distribution transformers and small power units where there is no room for separate fittings and a conservator.

Description
On a sealed transformer, with or without a conservator, pressure, temperature, oil level and gas must be monitored. Fitting four separate devices on a small cover is inconvenient, so the RIS2 gathers their functions in one compact enclosure. Devices of this type are known as DGPT.
The level indicator with a float responds to a drop in oil level and to gas release of a volume up to 150 cm³. With a minor change the float moves within the zone between MIN and MAX. If the leak or gas formation is significant, the float stops at MIN and closes the alarm circuit, and the accumulated gas is drawn off through a built-in valve. The pressure relay with a setpoint of 100–500 mbar operates a changeover contact when the internal pressure exceeds the set value. Two thermostats with setpoints of 30–120 °C monitor the oil temperature with an accuracy of ±4 °C, with T2 giving an alarm and T1 tripping the transformer.
The enclosure is insulated, with a degree of protection IP66 and impact resistance IK07. Salt fog resistance is confirmed for 1000 h and UV resistance for 500 h. The level indicator has a 270° viewing angle, so the device can be installed in any position. The cable gland is M25×1.5, and the terminal box to EN 60947-7-1 accepts conductors up to 2.5 mm². The level and gas contacts are rated 24–230 V DC and 2 A, and the pressure relay 24–230 V AC and 2 A at cos φ > 0.5. Impact resistance is determined to EN 50102 and UV resistance to UNI-ISO 4892 and UNI-ISO 4582, and the level and gas contacts on DC operate at L/R < 40 ms. The thermostat setpoints are set with knobs under the rear cover of the enclosure.
The maximum tank pressure is 500 mbar, the ambient temperature is from −40 to +60 °C, and the oil temperature up to 120 °C. The device complies with IEC 60076-22-1. The main applications include sealed 6–35 kV distribution transformers, solar plant transformers, offshore and tropical installations, harsh operating conditions, new substations and upgrades. If continuous remote monitoring of temperature and pressure is needed, the eRIS2 version with analog outputs is chosen.

Questions and answers
Which functions does the RIS2 combine?
A pressure relay with a setpoint of 100–500 mbar, two thermostats of 30–120 °C, an oil level indicator and a gas relay with gas accumulation up to 150 cm³.
Which transformers is the RIS2 suitable for?
Sealed 6–35 kV distribution transformers with or without a conservator, solar plant transformers and small power units.
How does the RIS2 differ from the eRIS2?
The RIS2 has only discrete alarm and trip contacts. The eRIS2 additionally transmits the current oil temperature and pressure values through analog outputs.
