EDTI temperature monitoring unit for dry-type transformers with Modbus RTU and 4–20 mA

eDTI is a digital temperature monitoring unit for dry-type transformers with 3 or 4 PT100 sensors, a Modbus RTU interface and a 4–20 mA analogue output. Setpoints are set from a computer, and one software system collects data from 247 units.

Description

The eDTI does the same as the basic DTI unit. It measures the winding temperature of a dry-type transformer from PT100 sensors, controls the cooling fans, and gives a warning and a trip command in case of overheating. The difference is in the communication interface. Over the Modbus RTU protocol the temperature is observed remotely, and the alarm setpoints are programmed from a computer without going up to the panel.

There are 3 or 4 PT100 inputs, with wire resistance up to 20 Ω. The measurement and display range is −30…+220 °C, accuracy ±2 °C, with display on two 3-digit LED displays. The programmable functions are ALARM, TRIP, HOLD, FAN, T.MAX, HOT, FDC and self-diagnosis, with an operation delay of 5 s and hysteresis of −2 °C. The two alarm levels are set separately for warning and trip. The Alarm signal warns personnel, and Trip trips the transformer if the temperature keeps rising.

The outputs include four NO-C-NC relays at 250 V / 5 A, a 0–20 or 4–20 mA analogue output (4–20 mA by default) and a Modbus RTU digital interface. Special software collects data from 247 units at once, for example from all the transformers of a large building or plant. The software is provided by the company's support service. For a control room this is a single point where the temperature of all dry-type transformers at the site is visible. Fast diagnosis of temperature changes helps to make sound decisions.

The panel-mounted DIN 96×96 mm housing, 120 mm deep, is made of UL94 V0 self-extinguishing thermoplastic. The terminals are removable screw terminals for wires up to 2.5 mm², with protection IP52 at the front and IP20 at the rear. The supply is 24/230 V AC/DC ±15 %, 50–60 Hz, consumption 4 VA, insulation 2500 V rms for 60 s. The operating temperature is −10…+60 °C, humidity up to 95 %. The unit complies with EN 61010-1 and the EMC standards EN 61000-4-2/-3/-4/-5/-11, EN 61000-6-4.

The eDTI is fitted on dry-type distribution transformers in hospitals, data centres, shopping centres and industrial sites, and also on electric motors. Continuous monitoring makes it possible to move to condition-based maintenance and to manage the state of equipment remotely.

Questions and answers

How many units can be combined in one system?

The special software collects data from 247 eDTI units at once.

What outputs does the eDTI have?

An analogue output of 0–20 or 4–20 mA, 4–20 mA by default, a Modbus RTU interface and four NO-C-NC relays at 250 V / 5 A.

How does the eDTI differ from the DTI?

Measurement and relay functions are the same, but the eDTI has a Modbus RTU interface and an analogue output for remote monitoring and setting of setpoints.
