GMK (Ground Mount Kiosk) is a factory-built ground-mounted switchgear unit in a metal kiosk for protecting and controlling MV cable networks of the 15, 27 and 38 kV classes. Inside are an OSM recloser with vacuum arc extinction and solid insulation without SF6 gas and a control cabinet of the RC series. The kiosk arrives on site assembled and tested, and the installers only need to connect the cables.

Description
Primary and secondary circuits are assembled in one enclosure. These are the circuit breaker, protection, automation and a telecontrol RTU with IEC 61850 support. The interaction of the primary and secondary parts is verified at the factory, so there is a minimum of wiring and commissioning on site. This reduces the cost of design and commissioning of the bay.
The compact GMK-1000 series protects underground cables, with protection performed by a built-in RC-10, RC-15 or RC-20 controller. The GMK-2000 series is built as a modular platform on the same OSM with RC architecture. It may include an OSM status viewing window, a load-side earthing switch with a mechanical interlock from the OSM and its own viewing window, a control cabinet compartment, an additional instrument tray, EN 50181 type C bushings, an earth bar, a voltage transformer and removable lifting lugs. The 38 kV version is produced only in the 2000 series.
The rated current of the kiosk is 630 A and the short-circuit breaking current is 12.5 or 16 kA. The peak making current is 31.5 / 40 kA at 50 Hz and 32.5 / 42 kA at 60 Hz, and the mechanical endurance is 30 000 operations. The recloser has three current transformers and six voltage sensors, and a version with matched CTs gives earth-fault protection sensitivity of 0.2 A. Operating temperatures are from −40 to +55 °C and altitude is up to 3000 m. The GMK-1000 weighs 480 kg and the basic GMK-2000 1800 kg.
The standard delivery includes the circuit breaker, the protection and control system with telecontrol, and power quality monitoring up to the 15th harmonic. Options include revenue metering and measuring instruments, earthing switches, current transformers for differential protection, fibre-optic communication, synchrophasors and power quality monitoring up to the 63rd harmonic. A separate version has two circuit breakers in one kiosk for ATS schemes or for separating renewable generation sites.
Typical GMK installation sites are as follows: the point of common coupling of distributed generation and renewables, connections of private and industrial MV networks, railway power supply and protection of cable networks. More than 200 GMK kiosks have been installed on three continents.
