ShoreCONNECT — shore power for ships (OPS) up to 20 MVA, 6.6/11 kV, and cable reels

ShoreCONNECT is a high-voltage cable management system for ship-to-shore power, rated up to 20 MVA at 6.6 or 11 kV. At berth the ship switches off its own diesel generators and runs on power from the port grid. The equipment is installed at cruise, container, ferry and cargo terminals.

Description

The manufacturer is among the leading producers of cable management systems (CMS) for OPS shore power. ShoreCONNECT is designed and built by a German division that has worked with ports for over 80 years. The system stands between the port power grid, for example a local substation, and the ship, and between the shore connection box and the ship socket. Cruise liners, container ships, OSV/PSV supply vessels, RoPax and RoRo ferries, car carriers and bulk carriers are connected. Shore power reduces emissions, vibration and noise from ships at the quay.

The main high-voltage version transfers up to 20 MVA at 11 or 6.6 kV and 50 or 60 Hz, in accordance with IEC/ISO/IEEE 80005-1 and 80005-3. Other versions in the brochure are rated for 7.5 MVA at 6.6 kV and 6.5 MVA at 11 kV. Low-voltage versions with separate cable handling are available for small ships. The equipment for 6–11 kV power supply at ports and marine terminals is adapted to the marine environment and works in any weather.

The design is adapted to each specific berth. The system travels along the quay, is available in mobile or stationary versions, automatically compensates for tide changes and is protected against flooding. A fail-safe shutdown system, an ergonomic plug holder, an articulated or telescopic boom and single-operator trolley control remove the need for crews to lay heavy cables by hand.

Configuration options include trolleys with an under-floor cable chain or a cable reel on top, various cable distributors, and reels that are moved by crane or forklift on shore or on board. For container ships the reels are placed on the quay or in an under-floor cable channel. Mobile shore connection boxes and fully assembled boxes, classic or pigtail type, are available.

For ferries with frequent calls the company offers FerryCHARGER, which connects power automatically within seconds, in high- or low-voltage versions. A separate line is the Harbor Cable Reels for transmitting power and data to cranes and cargo-handling equipment, from single- to triple-spiral versions.
