Pretact® prefabricated and mobile substations up to 420 kV (trailer, skid, HV E-house)
Pretact® is a concept of prefabricated and mobile high-voltage substations up to 420 kV built on the plug and play principle. The substations are manufactured and tested at the factory and delivered to site as ready modules. They are used for recovery after faults, temporary supply, bypass during reconstruction and fast connection of renewables.
- Voltage class

Description
A stationary HV substation takes a long time to build, while a prefabricated or mobile one is put into operation much faster and with a minimum of construction and installation work. Pretact was created as a grid resilience tool. When a fault disables a node, when an existing substation must be bypassed during reconstruction, or when a new solar or wind plant must be connected urgently, such a module closes the gap while the permanent equipment is being built. The connection to the grid remains safe under any conditions on site.
The manufacturer offers three formats. A substation on a road trailer is transported to the connection point and energized after minimal preparation. A substation on a skid is installed as a single block. The high-voltage E-house is a building module with built-in GIS. The voltage class for these formats reaches 420 kV.
The manufacturer's materials give several examples. For Belgium, a 123 kV high-voltage E-house with five bays was manufactured. There is also an E-house with 72 kV GIS. The 380 kV mobile substation has a rating of 500 MVA. The equipment is selected for the project and includes power transformers, high-voltage circuit breakers, GIS or AIS elements from the manufacturer's portfolio, and protection and control systems.
Mobile substations can be purchased or taken under a substation as a service model when emergency recovery or a temporary connection is needed. This is how the power supply of the Fertinal plant in Mexico is arranged. Another area of application is electrification of rural areas and construction sites. A bypass of an existing substation is needed when the main equipment is temporarily taken out for reconstruction while consumers must still be supplied. The E-house format with GIS is convenient where there is not enough space for an open-air installation.
The substation is manufactured and checked under factory conditions, so only connection and commissioning remain on site. The commissioning time is shortened and the amount of work on site is smaller. The equipment arrives matched, because transformers, switching devices and protection systems are supplied by one manufacturer. Detailed electrical characteristics depend on the project and are given only for individual examples in the available materials, so the parameters are agreed for the customer's specific task.

Questions and answers
Up to what voltage class are Pretact substations built?
Prefabricated and mobile Pretact substations are built for voltage up to 420 kV. An example mobile substation is rated 380 kV and 500 MVA.
What Pretact substation formats are available?
A substation on a road trailer, on a skid and a high-voltage E-house with GIS are offered. For example, a 123 kV E-house has five bays.
What tasks are Pretact mobile substations used for?
They are used for emergency recovery, temporary supply, substation bypass during reconstruction and connection of renewables. Mobile substations are also available as a service.
